One day, while Lester was at work, he suddenly received a call from Susan. Susan was crying and told Lester that Andrew was gone. Lester stood there, stunned and unable to react for a long time. At Andrew's funeral, Lester learned what had happened. The night before Andrew's wedding, his fiancée disappeared. Andrew received a call in the middle of the night, informing him that she had left him for another wealthy man. Andrew was shocked and furious. He couldn't accept this reality. He drove around frantically, hoping to find her and get some answers. At an intersection, Andrew, distracted, had a car accident. His car crashed into a guardrail, and the vehicle was severely damaged. Although he was rushed to the hospital, the injuries were too severe, and despite the doctors' best efforts, they couldn't save him. Andrew passed away in the hospital, leaving behind his friends and the house full of memories.
When Andrew's friends heard the news, they were devastated. Susan, Lester, and Mr. White all rushed to the hospital. They couldn't believe that Andrew was gone. They also informed Danny, who arrived the day after Andrew's death. He saw Susan—she was sitting in a corner. Taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open and walked in. The sound of the doorbell made her look up, and their eyes met. Susan's eyes widened in surprise before a faint smile appeared on her face. "Danny, long time no see," she said softly, her voice gentle yet distant.
Danny sat down opposite her, trying to keep his voice steady. "Yeah, it has been a while." His gaze unconsciously fell on her hand—the ring was gone. A whirlwind of emotions surged through him, a mix of relief and loss. He had countless memories flooding back—of their sweetness, their quarrels, and the nights they spent entwined, as if they had happened just yesterday. He realized he still cared about her, about every little thing she did.
"You've changed a lot," Susan suddenly said, breaking his train of thought. Danny paused, then let out a bitter chuckle. "Have I? Maybe." He wanted to say it was because she left that he learned to face life alone.
After a moment of silence, Danny finally mustered the courage to speak his mind. "Susan, I know it's been a long time since we parted, but I still can't forget you. I don't know how you're doing, but I want you to know that I still care about you."
Susan's eyes softened, and she sighed gently. "Danny, I'm glad to see you too. Actually, I've thought of you many times. But we've both moved on with our lives, and I don't know if we can go back to the way things were."
Danny's heart sank, but he forced a smile. "It's okay. I just wanted you to know that I loved you once, and I still do. If you're happy, that's enough for me."
Susan smiled faintly, but there was a hint of determination in her eyes. "Danny, I've never forgotten you either. Every time I think of you, I feel this warmth in my heart. I've been thinking, maybe if we give each other another chance, things could be different."
Danny's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Are you saying...?"
Susan nodded, her eyes filled with tenderness. "Yes, Danny. I still love you. I don't want to miss you again."
Joy surged through Danny. He reached out and gently took Susan's hand. "Susan, I love you so much. I never want to be apart from you again."
Tears welled up in Susan's eyes as she squeezed Danny's hand. "Me too, Danny. Let's never be apart again."
The air around them seemed to grow warmer, and time seemed to stand still as they embraced tightly, as if to merge their lives once more. All the memories, regrets, and hopes melted into that deep hug. They decided to stay together, no matter what challenges lay ahead. Danny whispered into Susan's ear, "I'll love and protect you for the rest of my life."
